QWL or Quality of Life at Work is the prerogative of every self-respecting company. It enables us to combine corporate performance and employee well-being.ANDRH readily admits that a satisfied employee is 30% more productive and 55% more creative. Quality of life has rapidly become a crucial issue for companies seeking to retain their talent or attract new talent. But what about measuring it? What are the leading indicators, and how do you measure employee well-being? Here's a look at 5 innovative quality of working life practices.

What is QWL?

Companies that have adopted a QWL approach are working to ensure that their employees enjoy good working conditions. They also take into account the concerns of employees, management and customers.

The 3 main factors that influence QWL are :

  • Working conditions
  • The work itself
  • The ability for everyone to express themselves and take action to improve their working conditions.

The fields of action are numerous, but to guarantee their relevance, they must be part of a response to an expressed need. This quality of life approach, between diagnosis and experimentation, must include all the players concerned. A performance factor, it also helps to satisfy the need for meaning at work, tosupport the company's transformations and to respect the balance between professional and personal life

Against this backdrop, QWL WeekWeek, which takes place every year in June, is a key event for raising awareness of quality of life issues within the workplace. It's also an ideal opportunity for organizations to showcase their QWL initiatives, explore solutions for improving working conditions and strengthen team cohesion. In today's fast-moving world of work, one thing remains certain: French employees and their companies are looking for flexibility

1. Delivering high-performance workspaces and workstations

High-performance workstations mean workstations that are user-friendly, comfortable and ergonomic. High-performance tools and workspaces are, if not a minimum, a guarantee of comfort for employees.

A number of expectations must be considered from the user's point of view, such as the choice of furniture, the design of spaces, lighting, sound and heat insulation, natural light, connectivity...

The truth is, you'd benefit from renting space in flexible office centers or operated offices

2. Promoting the development of teleworking

There's no need to remind people of the many benefits of telecommuting, but far too many companies limit it to working from home. And you're in luck if your employees all have a dedicated space in their homes, suitable for teleworking, and with the same degree of comfort. Here again, coworking spaces, operated offices and other third-party locations are today solutions to be considered to enable employees to work in good conditions, with their colleagues, and generally close to home.

They establish a safe and secure working environment for all parties, while strengthening the bond between colleagues.

‍3. Demonstrate originality in service

We're not talking here about organizing weekly karaoke nights with colleagues, but rather about offering services to help your employees do their jobs better, or achieve a better work-life balance.

For example, you could offer dedicated and personalized training programs, entrepreneurship coaching, mentoring schemes, 3D printing services, room reservations for personal or hybrid events... as well as more traditional concierge services such as parcel delivery, sports lessons...

NB: The distribution of a 13th or 14th month can also be a source of commitment.

4. Giving employees a voice

Ask your communications team, for example, to set up a regular anonymous survey to measure your employees' expectations and desires. Then select the relevant actions and, with the help of your Happyness Manager, set up a calendar of actions for the year. Take it one step at a time, however, and remember that each action must be measured to guarantee its effectiveness. This will enable you to make regular adjustments and always propose actions on your site or remotely that have a real impact.

5. Participate in solidarity initiatives

The quest for meaning is one of the most talked-about topics of recent months. Covid and the rise of hybrid working have called into question the nature and direction of working life. Far from being a generational need, it now concerns every profile in the company, and is so complex that everyone sees his or her professional activity as a different source of fulfillment.

Beyond the question of the meaning of work, and in order to initiate actions in favor of team cohesion, it is essential to promote a commitment to solidarity within companies. We recommend that you encourage your teams to take part in solidarity initiatives, as these actions strengthen bonds between employees while contributing to a more humane and responsible working environment.

And what actions will you be taking tomorrow to help improve quality of life at work?
